“The customer just contacted us and the order has changed. The ordered item has been added.”
The voice that has lost its composure
is clearly rising. Everyone feels uncomfortable when the troublesome work increases.
This lovely customer ordered only one slightly higher quality lotion online, but about five minutes later she sent an email asking for another of the same item.
It was a simple reorder, but online shopping services are a bit different from the cash business of a grocery store on the street corner.
An order ID is given to the order information, and a commission is added for each order ID. Even simple additional orders are given different order IDs.
After the reorder is processed, the customer will receive two lotions. However, in addition to the product price, the customer will be charged twice the fee. This is a little tricky.
Of course, this kind of problem will be solved by rewriting the order details. But it’s not something that can be easily handled.
How to organize a large amount of information?
How can we identify something and believe that it is the only thing?
If the number of items we can perceive is small, we can give them a name to indicate something and organize them.
However, when the amount of items or information increases, the number of names we can come up with is too small.
Numbers are used in that case. If we could handle the information individually by numbers, there would be less confusion.
However, some types of information are duplicated. Individual recognition by numbering cannot be fully classified for this duplication, strong similarity or correlation.
“Anyway, we will charge the product price and handling fee for one product. Do the same for the other product.”
From the viewpoint of office work, there are two identical slips with different order IDs.
The woman who got two lotions said she was willing to pay only half of the fees charged. That may be natural.
The customer representative of the shopping site tampered with the customer information by hitting the keyboard. She didn’t have time to worry about the penalties in commercial law.
She didn’t even have time to check what comments were written in the reviews section of the site.

That’s all for today’s post. Thank you
