Sometimes refer to lakes as the sea

While eating breakfast eggs, I decided to forget some information today.....

Of course, they know that there is a useful thing called a map. However, the inhabitants of the small town surrounded by the sea and mountains refer to the direction of the mountains on the south side as the top and the direction of the sea as the bottom.

The map is written with the north side up

so I was a little confused that they called the south side up.
Certainly, the direction of the mountain is high, so it is not so strange to call it above. The physical strength consumed differs between when going up and when going down.
Maps do not seem to be referenced very often in everyday life. It is easier to convey the story if you follow the convention rather than the map information.

Is the information practical?

A similar story

but people living near large lakes sometimes refer to lakes as the sea. Even though the map clearly states that it is a lake.
It’s a huge lake where you can’t see anything on the other side of the horizon, so it doesn’t matter if you call it the ocean.
Well, when I stayed near such a lake and had breakfast, someone suggested that we all go to the beach today.
beach? Does that mean a lake?
Of course, that meant a lake. The area that residents can enter in their daily lives is limited to the beaches of the lake. They rarely sail to the middle of the lake.
Residents see a vast lake like the sea every day, but only the beach is available for real life. So for them, the lake is the beach.

In short, the reality is more practical to us than the information. Therefore, the name can be changed in a practical direction.
I see. While eating breakfast eggs, I decided to forget some information today.
