After it became clear
that alchemy had no realistic prospects, the main industry’s interest shifted to fuel.
Oil was sometimes mined by chance by digging the ground based on the prophecies of fortune-tellers, but it was not possible to extract oil from many grounds, and fossil fuel mining was a terribly speculative business.
Therefore, it is no wonder that leisure people have come up with the idea of extracting or synthesizing liquid fuel from the surplus wood.
Because wood and fuel are the same carbon compounds, so it’s possible. Those who think that way are called scientists. It’s no use telling them anything.
Resource-poor areas
rushed to develop liquid fuels, but were eventually defeated in the war. It wasn’t a catastrophic defeat due to delayed fuel development. Areas that had to develop fuel shouldn’t have had a fight with no chance of winning.
And a society was born that couldn’t fight. It was called peace.
The facilities and personnel used for liquid fuel research and development were used for work that could contribute to a peaceful society.
It was a dramatic shift, but the way researchers think and walk slowly is the same as before.
What is a realistic R & D field?
I have participated in a party
at such a facility. Elderly people who once worked on the development of liquid fuel also participated.
Most of the people who came to the party and ate and drank were younger generations born in peaceful times, so no one talked about liquid fuel.
Unlike in the past, liquid fuels such as heavy oil are purchased by developed countries from areas where they can be mined. That’s the peaceful way. Even if the area is often bombed.
The party was fun. However, I couldn’t hear much of the latest information on polymer compounds, new drugs, artificial joints, etc.
The party venue was a guest room
inside the research facility. The hall is large and has a high ceiling. It made me imagine that the budget was abundant in the past.
When I looked closely at the ceiling, I saw something strange. Something is hanging from the side of the chandelier.
It was a cloth stuck on the ceiling. The cloth had peeled off and hung down after many years of weathering.
Many party attendees who were allowed to live in peaceful times were unaware of the rags hanging from the ceiling.
Are we aware? Peace barely hanging on the ceiling will one day fall above us.
