How many words are used in everyday conversation?
In other words, how many words can we memorize, understand, and use properly?
The amount may be surprisingly small. If you’re curious about that, why not record your daily conversation and count the types and frequencies of words.
To put it in the extreme, if we can use yes and no clearly, we can survive, even if it takes some time, right? Isn’t it?
By the way, how many times have you renewed your mobile phone?
Every time you get a new device, the first thing you have to do is check and customize the default settings.
For every occasion, you have changed settings such as ringtone volume, presence / absence of vibration, display brightness, charging method, etc.
It’s a bit annoying to have to configure each time the device is updated. From the time you started to feel it, you must have stopped changing the default settings.
In general, the most suitable setting values are given to the initial settings of products and services, not limited to mobile phones. So, unless there are special circumstances, there is no reason for it to change.
I think I can point out the same with words. Even if you memorize many words, the conditions under which they can be used are limited, so it is sufficient to memorize only the words that can be used under any conditions.
So what is the default value for such words?
My method is to forget the words that couldn’t be used under multiple conditions and cherish the surprising words that remain.
